The funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday at Second United Church of Christ, where he was a member, by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.
Mr. Barnhill was born in Brunswick County on July 25, 1925, to Wilbur Edgar Barnhill and Bessie Lillian Benton Barnhill. He was a retired employee of Proctor & Schwartz. He was also a member of Lexington Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Muriel Sealy Barnhill, in 1970, and second wife, Dorothy "Dot" Bumgarner Barnhill, in 2004; a son, Bryce Ray Barnhill in 1983; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Barnhill; four brothers, Clifton, Carlton, Herbert and Francis; and one sister, Bessie Watson.
Surviving are three sons, Billy Barnhill and his wife, Louise, and Eugene "Tiny" Barnhill, all of Lexington, and Bobby Barnhill of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wilbur Barnhill and Michael Barnhill, both of Lexington, Thomas Barnhill of Wilmington and David Barnhill of Winnabow; and five sisters, Evelyn Stevenson of Thomasville, Elsie Brown of Leland, Juanita Payne of Holden Beach, Helen Williamson of Leland and Myrtle Barnhill of Maryland.
