Marie Curran Cooke and Mary Hochreiter Steinauer wrote in 1917, "Life of Grandmother Curtis. Grandmother Margaret Rebecca Moffett Curtis was born December 26, at Bandon, Ireland. When she was 7 years old, she came to America and was adopted by a family (Groove family, perhaps) who cared for her and loved her. She married Grandfather John Curtis on 9 December 1848 although Mr. Rodgers loved her, and she often said she could have had him if she wanted him. She was married at Boston, Massachusetts. Later she and her husband moved to Chicago where he engaged in the pharmacy business. Later they moved to Nebraska in 1881 on a farm adjoining John Michie's in Beaver Township. After grandfather Curtis' death on 12 March 1900, she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Susan) Michie, where she lived until her death."
