David W. Cherry, 62, Greentown, passed away at 11:57 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born Aug. 28, 1952, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the son of Alexander and Mary Margaret (Ward) Cherry. He married Lucinda (Wilhoit) Cherry July 14, 1979, in Elwood, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2004.

He had been employed at Community Howard Regional Health as a hospital security guard and had worked in the hospital. He also had served as an EMT with Greentown Ambulance Service.

He graduated from Tucumcari High School in New Mexico. He served in the United States Army from 1972 until 1979. He was a member of Greentown American Legion Post 317. Dave was an avid cat lover and enjoyed researching the Civil War and genealogy.

Survivors include his sons, David H. (Shabnam) Cherry, Irvine, California, and Marcus S. (Courtney) Cherry, Lowell; two grandchildren, Darya and Adian Cherry; two brothers, William (Reba) Cherry, Alabama, and Mike (Barbara) Cherry, New Mexico; and one sister, Nancy Jumper, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Alex Cherry.

A memorial service celebrating David's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday, also at the funeral home.
