Gene Turner, age 71, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 following an extended illness.
Gene was born in Whick, Kentucky on July 15, 1943, the son of Lizzie (White) Strong. He graduated from Patricksburg High School with the class of 1962. Gene served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He worked at Cummins Engine in Columbus, Indiana where he retired after 33 years of service.
Gene loved basketball and traveling and had been fortunate to be able to travel to many countries around the globe.
Gene was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence “Kit” Turner; mother, Lizzie Strong; and brother, Arnie Lee Strong.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Turner; daughter, Charlotte Turner; brothers, Ed Strong, Sidney Strong, and Pearl Strong; sisters, Julia Jaynes, Clara Frye, Mary Weed, and Henryetta Whipkey; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Private graveside services will be held at Patricksburg Christian Cemetery.
