Betty Jean Bird passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 13, 2015 in Bountiful.

Betty Jean Jensen was born November 20, 1921 to George Henry and Zilpha Job Jensen in Salt Lake City.

Betty earned her RN at Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and graduated later that same year with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at St. Mary of the Wasatch.

Ever yearning for adventure and to travel to see the world, she joined the Navy and served during WWII, spending her entire tour of duty in Oceanside, California!

"Ensign Jensen" quickly became the cute little red-haired nurse loved by "her boys" that were returning home from the war.

She married Leo Montell Bird on July 3, 1948 in Salt Lake City, where they lived for several years before moving to Bountiful and then later to Centerville.

She loved her work as a nurse, and the doctors, staff, and patients of the South Davis Medical Center in Bountiful became like her second family, as she worked there for more than teenty-five years.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lori (Brian) Golding; two grandchildren, Michelle (Todd) Wright and Stephen Golding; and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Montell Bird; her sister, JoAnn Benton; and three grandsons, Paul, Scott, and Shaun Golding.

Family and friends may visit to help celebrate her life on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East).
