Daniel J. Lambert, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2015 after a brief illness.

He was born January 3, 1928 in Lockport, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Alvina (Rodeghero) Lambert. He graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1945, where he played baseball, basketball and football and served as senior class president. Dan immediately joined the United States Marine Corps and became a proud Marine, serving four years active duty and four years in the United States Marine Corp Reserve at the rank of Corporal.

Dan was a 1951 graduate of Freight Traffic Institute of Chicago. He was employed at Blockson Chemical and at Mechling Barge Line as a traffic manager. He owned and operated Dan Lambert Amoco from 1957 until his retirement in 1999. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Lewis University in 1970.

He loved baseball and coached young players for over 30 years at Marycrest, St. Joe's Park, St. Paul the Apostle School, Goltz Park, Joliet Collegiate team and the University of St. Francis.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen (née Vogrin). Family was everything to Dan. He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by six children, Patricia (Todd) Hogan, Daniel (Debra) Lambert, Peggy (Patrick Monshau) Velemir, James (Paula) Lambert, Terence Lambert and Timothy (Teri) Lambert; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Dwelle, Laura (Terry) Lewis, Stephanie (Patrick) Forster, Kyle Hogan, Kathryn (Aaron Bloomfield) Lambert, Daniel (Kelley) Lambert, Jamie (Michael) Stevenson, Melissa Lambert, Michael Lambert, Jessica Velemir, Martin Velemir, Jacey Lambert and Luke Lambert; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James (Sharon) Lambert; sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Robert) Stephen, Marilyn (Joseph) Feehan, Yvonne (David) Callans and Barbara (Robert-dec) Haggerty; and brother-in-law, Joseph (Joyce) Vogrin.

Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen; his parents; his brother, Thomas (Janice, deceased) Lambert; in-laws, Mary and Joseph Vogrin; and sisters-in-law, Jayne Vogrin, Dorothea Vogrin and Marjorie (George, deceased) Eberhard.

Visitation: Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue, Joliet.
