Elizabeth “Betty” Lucille Elliott Metcalf,94,of Scottsbluff, entered into rest January 17, 2015 at her home. Her memorial funeral service will be held January 22, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. A private family inurnment will precede the service at the Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Betty was born June 10, 1920, at her parent’s home in Scottsbluff, to John and Camille (Leyda) Elliott where she grew up and graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1938. She participated in Band, Orchestra, vocal groups, dramatics, and pep club. She was on the Honor Society as a junior in high school. She later received her Teaching Certificate from Scottsbluff Junior College. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Social Sorority.She married Albert Metcalf May 1,1942 at Scottsbluff. Since he was away during World War II, they moved about the United States many times before he was sent overseas. Betty was initiated as a charter member of Chapter ET, PEO, in 1939, and served as Past President and Historian. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff, taught Sunday school and was Sunday School Superintendent during the World War. She was also President of the Board of the Church from 1977-1978. She was a member of the Church Administrative Board, and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Memorial Committee of the Church for twenty years, and later served on the Alter Committee and Christmas Decorating Committee at the Church. Betty also worked as a volunteer at the Midwest Theatre for many years.Betty was a substitute teacher for thirty years in the Scottsbluff School system. She taught everything from Shop to Physical Education. She enjoyed her students and let them play basketball at her home by the hour, sometimes joining them.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Catherine Yaley.
