Jeannette Flaherty was born at Chicago, Illinois, on August 31, 1906. She was the daughter of John Flaherty and Margaret Rafter. She was married to Francis Real, who was also a native of Illinois.
Jeannette and Francis lived for many years in Chicago, where they had five children: three sons and two daughters. In addition to raising her children, Jeannette worked as a switchboard operator.
Jeannette and Francis later moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts. She worked for many years as a switchboard operator at the Holyoke Soldiers Home, retiring in 1972. She died at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, on April 23, 1994. Funeral services were held at Holyoke, with interment at St. Jerome’s Cemetery there.
Jeannette was survived by her husband (who died later that same year) and her children; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
