Born March 13, 1940 in Gloversville, New York, he was the son of the late Clifford D. and Lena Putnam Hayes, Sr.
He was a lifelong area resident and attended Fonda Fultonville High School.
Cliff was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a Machinist for the Glen Mohawk Company in Fultonville, later the Capital Vial Company in Fultonville and he last worked for Anderson Instrument Company in Glen until retiring in 2002.
Cliff enjoyed working around his home and detailing the family cars. His pride and joy was his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
On December 31, 1969 he married the former Kathleen Kilmartin. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Clifford D. Hayes III and his fiancé Angie Richards of Amsterdam; his daughter Erica Smith and her husband Keith of Ephratah; a brother R. Seymour (Marge) Hayes of Mayfield; three sisters, Yvette (Eugene) Tryon of Tribes Hill, Loretta (Richard) DeBiere of Tribes Hill and Betty Moore of Fultonville; four grandchildren, Breanna Smith, Ethan Smith, Zachery Smith and Olivia Smith; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Burial will take place in spring at the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville with Military Honors.
