The following obituary is from the May 2, 1963, issue of The Mountain Eagle:

Funeral rites held for Harrison Collier

James Harrison Collier died at the Jenkins Clinic April 4 at the age of 73.

He was the son of the late Elder Willis and Mary Adams Collier. He was married to Ruth Castle Collier, who survives.

Survivors besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Ted Adams, Middletown, Ohio; Mrs. Geraldine Bentley, Toledo, Ohio; Maxine and Pauline Collier, both of Miami, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild; four half brothers, Howard Collier, Fleming; Ira Collier, Gate City, Va.; Willie Collier, St. Joseph, Ark.; Milton Collier, Cleveland; two half sisters, Mrs. Nettie Bentley and Mrs. Frances Potter, both of Neon.

He joined the Little Rock Church of Old Regular Baptists about 20 years ago. He had been clerk of the church and was assistant clerk at the time of his death.

In his younger days he was a school teacher and taught in Letcher County for about 10 years and a preacher for about 30 years. He was a registered pharmacist.

He was a candidate for Lieutenant governor in the Democratic Primary at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held April 6 at the Kona Church with Elders Henry Welch and Bill Sparks officiating. Burial was in the Thornton Cemetery.

Craft Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
