Robert E. Mitchum, Sr., 71, of Abbeville, died peacefully Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his home.

He was born in Orangeburg to the late Everett S. Mitchum and Wilma Floyd Mitchum. Mr. Mitchum served his country as a member of the United States Army with the 101st Air Borne. He enjoyed many occupations throughout his lifetime, especially being a farmer and rancher. Mr. Mitchum was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Eutawville, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mitchum.

Mr. Mitchum is survived by two sons, Robert E. Mitchum, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, and Tommy Mitchum and his wife, Alicia, all of Abbeville; a brother, Rodney Mitchum, of Trenton, SC; a sister, Iris Mitchum, of Columbia; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Mitchum's life will be held 2:00PM on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Avinger Funeral Home chapel in Holly Hill, SC.
