SAN ANGELO — E. W. Wilson, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 5, 2006.
A family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Shaffer Funeral Home with burial following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with David Smith officiating. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

E. W. was born May 26, 1928, in San Angelo to Elzie W. Wilson and Lillie Mae Sanders. He married HELEN I. WILSON on Aug. 24, 1947. He and Helen owned Wilson Paving and Equipment Company for 48 years. He also owned Sport King Manufacturing for several years. E.W. served as county commissioner for 12 years and was instrumental in the Tom Green County North Branch Library, the Juvenile Justice Center, the Judge Edd B. Keyes Building and the county jail.

E.W. had a love for horses. He also had a love for his ranch, always inviting everyone to "come fishin'." He was a member of the San Angelo Saddle Club since 1962. During this time, he held offices of president, vice president and director. He also played cowboy polo. He was instrumental in starting the barbecue for the visitors for the parade during the San Angelo Rodeo.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen; son Paul and wife Sherri; and daughters Suzanne and husband Reagan, and Sheila and husband Merle. He was known as Paw-paw to his granddaughters Meagan Owens, Carlean, Leigha, Nikki and Mandi Foley. They were the joys of his life. He is also survived by his sister, CINDY (WILSON) RAY and John March Doss. He is also survived by a special uncle, BOB WILSON ; aunts Maggie Lou Bannert, Elvida Carrick and Leoda Thorman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be JOHNNY WILSON, RODGER WILSON , Mike, Kenneth and Donald McLaurin, and Brent Gesch. Honorary pallbearers will be Audie Jetton, Leon Oaks, Aubrey Biggerstaff, Rick Naylor, FRED BUCK , Vernon Sartain, Charlie McDonald, BOBBY WILSON , Bill Blasingame and Al Hooker.

We would like to thank the staff of Sterling County Nursing Home, the staff of Hospice and Dr. Rose of Shannon Clinic.

Go Rest High On That Mountain, Daddy. We love you.
