John C. Lourenzo died Oct. 27, 1987, in Eureka at the age of 94. He was a resident of Ferndale.
A native of the Azores, Mr. Lourenzo came to this country in 1911 and to this area in 1913, where he worked most of his life as a dairyman, retiring in 1966. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, a charter member and president of Portuguese Hall of Eel River Valley, IDES, UPEC, and United National Life. He will be remembered as one who greeted change with open arms and for his love of helping others with anything from carpentry to giving haircuts, also for the very special love between he and his family.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Elsie Lourenzo of Orland, Calif., Dan Lourenzo of Larkspur, Calif., Adelino and Mary Lourenzo of Portland, Ore., Antone and Dorothy Lourenzo of Ferndale, and Leonel 'Sam' and Martha Lourenzo of Ferndale; his sisters, Wellamina Luis of Ferndale and Angelina Santos of Fortuna; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Lourenzo in 1965. Friends are invited to the Recitation of the Rosary tonight, Thursday, Oct. 29, 1987, at 9:30 A.M. at the mortuary, thence to Assumption Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Denis Doyle as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Eureka.
Casketbearers are his nephews, Joe Lourenzo, Daniel Nunes, John J. Nunes, Joe H. Luis, Gene Sousa, and Albert Freitas. Honorary bearers also his nephews, are Frank Costa, Evo Lourenzo, John Nunes, and Rick Lourenzo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Ferns-Citizen's Mortuary, Ferndale, where friends may visit today from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M.
