Dear Sir-January 11, 1865
To His Excellency A. Lincoln, Pres U.S.A.
Dear Sir-
I have a grandson who enlisted before he was 15 years of age in the 14th Regt C. V. Company B. His three years will be up next August. He was taken Prisoner at the Battle of the Wilderness last May 6, 7 & 8th. We have just learned by an exchanged prisoner that about the first of Dec last he was very low with starvation only.
If he is yet alive can there be anything done to release him from the grasp of the traitors & tyrants & murders by the whole sale, if so, I know you will be glad to do it. Will you be so kind as to let us know and oblige many friends and relatives. His name is Charles A. Upson.
May the Lord preserve him to us.
Very truly yours, L. M. Upson
