She was the last of six children born to Martha (Mattie) Bellamy and Ernest C. Gotthardt. Known to customers as "Big Minnie" in a local bar where she worked, she vanished sometime during the summer of 1937. The tavern owner, Joseph Ball, who was known as the "The Butcher of Elmendorf" was found to have shot Minnie after he tired of her. The two had been dating while she was in his employ.
