(Robert) Wright Vermilya was reportedly the son of Solomon Vermilya. A researcher posted his lineage as: "Solomon, Edward, William, Abraham, John, Johannes, Isaac, Jean." I do not know how correct this is.

He was a merchant in Brownstown and his 1896 building still stands in Brownstown across the street from the Jackson County Court House.

He married Josephine Miller in 1869 and was the father of six children.

From: "History of Jackson County, Indiana," Brant & Fuller, 1886, p. 628:

"WRIGHT VERMILYA, merchant, Brownstown Township, was born in Jackson County, Ind., August 11, 1843, and is the fourth child born to Solon and Mary (Wiley) Vermilya. The former came with his parents from New York State, to Washington County, Ind., in 1816; he soon afterward married and settled on a farm near Brownstown, where he lived until his death, whichoccurred in about the year 1848, his widow surviving him only afew years. Our subject being thus doubly orphaned at the earlyage of eight years. He came to Brownstown and engaged as clerkwith George V. Benton, who was one of the most successful merchants in southern Indiana. He remained with him as clerk until 1868, when he engaged in business as a member of the firm of Benton & Vermilya. He has occupied his present place ofbusiness since 1870, where he has carried on a flourishing business in general merchandise. He was married, in September, 1869, to Josephine Miller, daughter of Joseph Miller, one of the most prominent farmers and early settlers of the county. By this marriage seven children have been born, five of whom are living: Edwin, Joseph, Clyde, Earl, Ray, Lillie and Wright are deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Vermilya are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics, he is a Republican, and as such has rendered invaluable service to the party. He was four times elected city treasurer."

From the Brownstown Directory for 1915: "Wright (a banker) and Josephine Vermilya and (Solomon) Earl, one of their younger sons (a railway mail clerk), are living at 321 N. Main Street in 1915. At 315 N. Main is living E. L. (this son, Edwin L., a railway mail clerk) and his wife Anna (Stilwell). With them is living their son Hurschel, listed as a student, and Edwin's brother Wright Jr., (another son of Wright and Josephine - a chauffer). The couple's fourth son, (William) Ray (a railway mail clerk) and his wife (Mary Elizabeth) Mayme (Welsh) are living at 424 N. Main."

"A Handsome Monument
"A beautiful gray granite family monument was placed upon Wright Vermilya's lot, in the new cemetery, last week, by Godfrey & Hodapp, of Seymour.
It rests upon a large square granite base, Is well proportioned, elegantly engraved, and 14 feet high.
"As yet, only one member of Mr. Vermilya's family, his little son Wright, has been summoned to the spirit world and we hope that many years may elapse before death again invades his happy household."
