Funeral services in memory of Clair R. Berry were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. John Rosenberger officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Sanborn Funeral Home in Hartley charge of the arrangements.

Clair Rubin Berry, the son of William and Valorie (Brooks) Berry, was born at Ottumwa, Iowa, on October 1, 1909. He lived his youth in Ottumwa and Shelbyville, Missouri, graduating from the Shelbyville High School.

Clair was united in marriage to Ileen Weist on December 27, 1936, at Sibley, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near May City for several years prior to moving to their farm near Primghar, Iowa.

Ileen died on October 17, 1878. Clair retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Hartley in 1982. He died at the Community Memorial Health Center at Hartley on April 18, 2001.

Clair is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Art Back of Primghar; his four grandchildren [redacted]; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Berry of Crystal City, Missouri; one sister, Beatrice Berry of Los Angeles, California; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter in infancy, Janet Kay; and seven brothers and sisters.

Clair was a member of the Hartley United Methodist Church. He was devoted to his farming vocation, and will be remembered as an avid bowler and participated in that sport until he was 85 years old.
