Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21, 1978 at 2 pm at the United Methodist Church, Hartley, for Ileen Mae [sic] Berry. Rev. Lester Hancock officiated. Interment was at Pleasant Hill [sic - Pleasant View] Cemetery, Hartley, with Baumgarten Service in charge of arrangements.
Ileen Mae Berry, the daughter of Charles and Maude Powers Weist, was born May 12, 1908, in O'Brien County, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1927. She received her teaching certificate and taught school for ten years.
She was united in marriage to Clair Berry on December 28, 1937 [sic], at Sibley, Iowa. They farmed in the Hartley area since their marriage.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, United Methodist Women, and was active in the church circles.
She passed away on October 18, 1978 at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 70. Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant daughter, Janet Kay.
Left to cherish er memory are her husband, Clair, one daughter and her husband: Marjorie and Arthur Back of Hartley; four grandchildren and one brother, Gerald Weist of Omaha, Nebraska, other relatives and friends.
