Ruby Mae Valentine, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006. She was born August 13, 1922 in Hopewell, N.C. to Dr. Lorenzo W. and Rosa Jane Powell. Ruby was a faithful member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. A true Humanitarian active in her community, Missionary and Stewardess. She was preceded in death by her sons, Ronald Gary Brown and Robert Lenard Brown. Ruby is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia (Johnny) Hairston; granddaughter that she raised, Dawn Valentine; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006 in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Louis B. Oliver Jr. officiating. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may call on Thursday for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
