Merl "Dutch" R. Haynes, 94, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, in his home.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, , with Pastor Terry Sapp officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL, with Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, January 19, 2015, at the funeral home. Memorials: Ramsey Christian Church, Ramsey, Illinois.

He was born April 26, 1920, in Rural Vandalia, IL, the son of James Anderson & Maud Myrtle ( Sumption) Haynes. Married Betty Marie Shepard , January 01, 1950, Vandalia, IL. Dutch retired, after 47 years, as Foreman in Combustion Engineering. He was a World War II Army Veteran: 5th Army - 338th Division - 85th Custer's Division -first Scout for 269 day in Italy, affiliated with the Ramsey Christian Church, Ramsey, Illinois and a member of Crawford Hale Post # 95 American Legion, Vandalia, IL.

He is survived by: Wife - Betty Haynes, Vandalia, IL; Daughters - Diane Arnold & Doug, Odin, IL; Jeanette Benoodt & Mark, O'Fallon, MO; Debra Glover & Tim, Silex, MO and Mary Etta Frazier & Ronnie, Vandalia, IL;
Brother - Cecil Haynes & Joann, Clearwater, FL; 8 Grandchildren - Bobby, Jenny, Stacy, Shelly, Ryan, Chris, Casey & Dustin; 11 Great Grandchildren - Vinny, Sophie, Gianna, Frankie, Eli, Kylie, Brendan, Scotty, Morgan, Tasha & Dylann.
