Television Screenwriter and Producer. He was a graduate of Duke University and a veteran of the United States Navy during the Second World War. He was one of the head writers for the "Andy Griffith Show" from 1960 to 1965. In addition to the Griffith show, he also was one of the top creative writers for the "Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Danny Thomas Show," "I Spy," "Hogan's Heroes," "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.," "The Jim Nabors Hour," "The Real McCoys," "The Doris Day Show," "The Danny Thomas Show," "The Walter Winchell Show," "Love American Style" plus the animated series "The Jetsons," "Topcat" and "The Flintstones." His other notable television and motion picture credits include "Girl Happy" (1965), "Who's Minding the Mint?" (1967), "With Six You Get Eggroll" (1968), "Don't Drink the Water" (1969), "Goin' Coconuts" (1977) and "Return to Mayberry" (1986). He died at the South Coast Medical Center at the age of 84 from an undisclosed illness.
