Born Mildred Lorraine King at Wallace WV (Big Elk) and always known as Lorraine. At least one written family history has her names reversed. Graduate of Lumberport High School and West Virginia University where she majored in English and minored in French. Married L. Bush Swisher Sr at Spruce Street Methodist Church, Morgantown, Monongalia, WV, 2 Mar 1929.
Taught English and literature at Pennsboro High School while Bush was at Cairo High. See his memorial for all the places they lived. She worked as a secretary while he was a graduate student at Cornell. In Morgantown, she taught English for many years at what was then Suncrest Flatts Junior High School. Hundreds of Morgantown area former students credit Lorraine for their excellent knowledge of English grammar. She was active at Drummond Chapel Methodist Church and in Eastern Star. Along with her husband, she was prominent and well-known in Morgantown social, educational, and business activities. Member and officer of the Morgantown Business and Professional Women's Club. In addition to her late sons, she was the mother of a daughter, still living. A granddaughter memorialized Lorraine's birthday by getting married on Nov 17, 2001.
