Josephine B. Hogan, 95, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late James T. Hogan, died peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 12, 1919 in Hartford, daughter of the late Frank and Magdelina (Wnuk) Bania, and had lived in Hartford until 1950 when she moved to Manchester.

Josephine was a communicant of St. Bridget Church in Manchester.

She was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company in Manchester for many years after her children attained school-age. She instilled within her children the importance of a good education and a strong work ethic.

As a member of the Greatest Generation, Josephine shared inspiring stories of growing up during the Great Depression and WWII.

She enjoyed living in her own home, cooking, and hosting family parties. She loved doing crossword puzzles and was an avid supporter of the UConn Women's Basketball Team.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hogan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Marybeth Hogan of Jackson, Tennessee; her son, James Hogan, of Manchester; and two grandchildren, Reid Hogan-Yarbro and Jayme Hogan-Yarbro. Other survivors include her brother, Edward Bania, of Manchester; niece, Susan Dinunzio, and her husband, Robert, of Newington; nephew, John Murray, of Wethersfield; and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Anastasia and John Murray.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bridget Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester.
Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
