John Joseph Hawkins was born in 1634 to Richard and Grace Cutland Hawkins. Select Marriages, 1538–1973 confirms that Richard married Grace Cutland on Oct 14. 1633, in Slapton,Devon,England, and probably in Slapton, Devon, England. Baptismal records confirm that he was baptized on March 22, 1639 at Warminster, Wiltshire, England.

His immigration record was found on Transcript. Q:435-6 [SR 7346], MSA SC 4341-2985 confirming that his arrival was in 1658. These documents are located at the Maryland State Archives.

his probate is dated 17 March 1676 in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. His will was dated 3 February 1670.

Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol 1, pg 107 validate that he married Mary Foster in 1660. Mary Foster’s father was Seth Foster. The Foster line was originally from Ipswich, England. The date of her death comes from family data and says about 1662.

In about 1662 John choose Mary Warner, the daughter of Augustine Warner and Mary Townley Warner to be his bride. From this union the following children were born: Augustine Hawkins 1663 – 1700; Joseph Hawkins 1665 – 1726; Elizabeth Hawkins 1665; Ann Hawkins 1666 – 1690; Matthew Hawkins 1668 – 1705, from an excerpt of Mathew will he deeded 90 acres to his brother Joseph; and Thomas Hawkins 1671 – 1715.
