Leo Miller (141433946)
Leo Benjamin Miller passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at the age of 95 after living a full and productive life.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sara June Miller (nee Nusbaum), and his grandson Jacob Miller Sand.
Together, Leo and Sara have six children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Leo was born and raised in Milwaukee. He attended Riverside High School and was a graduate of UW-Madison School of Law.
For most of his career, Leo was an attorney specializing in estate and gift tax with the Internal Revenue Service.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II.
In 1980, Leo and Sara moved to Newburg, where they became active in a variety of services with Riveredge Nature Center. They also were involved in the formation and operation of the annual Heinerbeiner Cross Country Ski Race. Leo was a dedicated volunteer for numerous Milwaukee activities and organizations, including Milwaukee summer festivals, Mitchell Park Domes, The Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau, UPAF Ride for the Arts and the Performing Arts Center.
Leo was a founding member of Welcome, House of Modification Examples Inc. (Welcome HOME), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting wheelchair accessible home design.
Leo had a strong interest in energy conservation, which was evident in the 1960s when he would walk through the house and turn off any lights that were left on. This interest continued throughout his life, as for decades he would attend the annual energy fair in central Wisconsin. He put his interest to practice with the construction of their home in Newburg in the 1980s, and in 2016 he proudly installed solar panels for the house and bought a hybrid electric car.
A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Second Home Cemetery.
