Charlene Caroline Sweeney, 79, of Pennsboro, departed this life on Friday, January 23, 2015, in Parkersburg, WV.

Charlene was born, February 1, 1935 in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of the late J. Carl and Elsie McCall Rinehart. Mrs. Sweeney served Ritchie County Schools for 25 years. The first 10 years of her career, she served as a Special Education Teacher and the remainder of her career she was the Director of Special Education.

Charlene was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the Class of 1952, received her Undergraduate degree from Marietta College and her Master's degree from Morris Harvey University, now known as the University of Charleston. She was a member of the Pennsboro United Methodist Church, Pennsboro Chapter #26 of the Order of the Eastern Star, was an active member of the Mid-Ohio Valley Board of Health, was a supporter of the Ritchie County Humane Society and had served on the Pennsboro City Council. In addition to her civic activities Charlene was an avid reader, loved animals and was a gracious friend.

Charlene Sweeney is survived by one son, Dr. John Sweeney (Carla), Winston-Salem, NC; one daughter, Sarah K. Stapp,(Vincent), Parkersburg, WV; one daughter in law, Carol Sweeney; seven grandchildren, Jack Sweeney, Jeriaka Stapp, Eli Stapp, Thomas Stapp, Allison McCauslin (Todd), Victoria Sweeney and Molly Sweeney; one great grandchild, Michael McCauslin; and her very special friends, Biff Spitz, Connie Moore, Sheila Collins and Kathy Stewart.

In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Sweeney.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nik Shah, Dr. Randall Heavner, Dr. Matthew Day and the staff of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV, with the Rev. Bill Durst officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Mt. Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro, WV. Friends may call Friday, January 30, from 4:30-8:00 p.m. with an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service, at the McCullough Funeral Home, Pennsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Ritchie County Humane Society, 2220 Pullman Road, Harrisville, WV, 26362.
