Virginia A. Hamilton was born on January 21, 1933, in Potts Camp, Mississippi, to James and Azlie Alderson. She has one brother, Gafford Alderson, of Wynndale, Mississippi. She went home to the Lord's Kingdom on October 2, 2020, in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, at the age of 87.

She is survived by her children, Vickie Hill (Terry), of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Wanda Crawford (Steve) of Brandon, Mississippi, and Daniel Matthews (Sheila) of Norman, Oklahoma; stepsons, McCoy Hamilton (Margie) of Brandon, Mississippi, and Dexter Hamilton (Melody) of Montgomery, Alabama; granddaughters, Jessica Weathersby (Clay) of Florence, Mississippi, Kelly Cabell (Steve) of Brandon, Mississippi, Stephanie Sullivan (Mark) of Madison, Mississippi, and Jordi Ryan (Brandon) of Durango, Colorado; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, D.W. Hamilton, step-son, Richard Hamilton, and sister-in-law, Mildred Alderson.

Virginia graduated from Byram High School in 1952. She loved basketball and played forward on the Byram team. She was voted "Most Courteous" and "Most Athletic", as well as being named "Miss Byram High". She married Roger Matthews, who was in the Air Force. They had three children. They lived in Zweibrucken and Darmstadt, Germany, and Peshawar, Pakistan, in their seven years abroad. They lived for many years in San Antonio, Texas. They ended their marriage after 20 years.

Virginia married D.W. Hamilton in 1976 and they made their home in and around Jackson and Pearl, Mississippi. Virginia worked for several companies over the years; Baptist Hospital, First National Bank, Batesville Casket Company, and Jackson Public Schools, all in administration. She loved dancing, music, gardening, and reading. She attended the Wynndale Presbyterian Church for a large portion of her life and Northhaven Cooperative Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma, after moving.

She was a sweet, loving person, and enjoyed people. She made friends and never said a bad word about anyone. She loved music, dancing, her friends and family, and her church family. In all the years she was ill, she always prayed and knew she would be with God. We could all learn from her.

Virginia went to live with her daughter in 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma when she was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer's. She loved walking and all the activities at their home. She loved sitting outside with Parker (dog) sitting beside her for hours. All the neighbors and our church family loved her. Her children and grandchildren loved her.

There came a time that her family could no longer provide her the care she needed. She fought long and hard...she is our hero...loved by many.

Private family services will be held.
