Obituary, Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home (Newport, NH), Jan 2015:

Lempster, NH: William A. Baker, 65, of Pitkin Road, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends Sunday, December 28, 2014, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born on April 11, 1949 to the late William Minor, Jr. and Virginia Graves (Sweeney). He grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida and graduated from Palo Alto High School in California with the Class of 1967. He served in the United States Navy until receiving an honorable discharge and achieving the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer Boiler Technician aboard the USS Wasp aircraft carrier. On December 4, 1971 he married his beloved wife Janice (Ware) and worked for Florida Power until moving to New England, and finally New Hampshire, to start his own business.

For the past 25 years, Bill and his wife lived in Lempster, NH where they enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship this small-town extended to them. He was a member of the Lempster Historical Society, American Legion Post 200 and St. Paul's Masonic Lodge. Bill loved his work and what he did almost as much as he loved his music. He had an extensive guitar collection and enjoyed playing in local bands across Vermont and New Hampshire. He passed on his love of music by teachers others. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Janice, of 43 years he is survived by his daughter: Christine Almstrom and her husband, Jayson, of Croydon, NH, his son: William J. Baker of Lempster, NH, his daughter: Melissa Baker Benik and her husband, Peter, of Walpole, NH, his daughter: Kymberlii Paula and her husband, Janio, of Everett, MA, his sister: Barbara Duranleau of California, his 2 half-brothers: Michael and Timothy Leitch of Florida, 7 grandchildren: Joshua and Caitlyn Almstrom, Angelina and Anthony Baker, Aviana and Adriano Paula, Owen William Benik, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home at 11 am on Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Newport. Calling hours are 10 am until the service.

A military graveside interment will be held at a date to be determined in the spring at the Lempster Cemetery in Lempster, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connecticut Valley Homecare & Hospice, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport, NH, or via [email protected].
