Rachel Craighead Dunlap, a daughter of Capt. George and Agnes Nancy [née Craighead] Dunlap, was born in the bounds of Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church in Chester District, South Carolina. Rachel's father served in Col. Kershaw's Regiment in the South Carolina Militia during the revolutionary war.


Rachel married John Neely in 1805. This union was blessed with the following known children:

George Harvey Neely (1807 – 1890)

Prudence Selena Neely (1809 – 1841)

Thomas Amzi Neely (1813 – 1864 - Entered Chester County, SC Probate on 15 Feb 1864 by an Executor, his brother George H. Neely. No known gravestone)

James Alonzo Neely (1817-)

John Leroy Neely (1819-1874)

David Dunlap Neely (1822 – 1868)

Agnes Jane Neely (1827 – 1907)


After John Neely died in 1832, Rachel is seen in the 1840 and 1850 US Censuses of Chester Co., SC, but is living with her daughter Agnes Jane (Neely) Goudelock in 1860 at Bradley Co., Arkansas. Then moving with some of her children to the area around Spring Hill in Drew County, Arkansas. Here Rachel departed this life in October 1869 in the 84th year of her age.
