He was born August 23, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Joseph Faireld and Arcilee Barnett Larsen.
Howard graduated from Wasatch Academy and the University of Utah. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He served in the military in World War II as an OSI officer and received a commission of Second Lieutenent.
After the war, he traveled on the road for 22 years for a prominent manufacturer of men's apparel, calling on fine department and specialty men's stores in the mid-west.
Survived by a sister, Leone L. Cox of Rye, New York; two nieces, Anne C. Cox of New York City, N.Y.; Karen C. Mandy of Rye, N.Y; and a nephew, Robert Howard Cox, of Virginia.
