George A. Carl, 90, of 830 E. Grand Ave., Tower City, passed away Jan. 14 at Countryside Christian Community, Annville.
Born Sept. 10, 1924, in Buck Run, he was a son of the late George W and Minnie Sweinhart Carl.
He served as an MP in the Army in the Philippines during World War II.
He was a miner for several area coal mines for 26 years and retired from the former Porter Tunnel.
He was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tower City.
George was also a member of American Legion Post 468, Tower City.
His wife, Mary Kroh Carl, passed away in 1992.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda L. Cozzi; a brother, Charles D. Carl; and four sisters, Edna Rhoades, Anna Merwine, Ida Leitzel and Violet Lucas.
Surviving are five sons, Jesse Ray Carl Sr., Orwin, David A. Carl and his wife, Ruth, Pine Grove, Clayton M. Carl, Tower City, Bryan K. Carl, New Cumberland, and George P. Carl and his wife, Sally, Annville; a daughter, Debra A. Kanczuga and her husband, John, Palmyra; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Joan Kroech, Palmyra; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, with the Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. A viewing was held at the funeral home. Interment with military honors was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com.
