Home town Chisholm, Minnesota. Son of John and Gwen (_______) Ryder. Graduated from Chisholm High School in 1964. Graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1968. First Lieutenant in the US Air Force and advanced to Captain after he went missing. Assigned to the 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron. Call name "Mike". Disappeared on a visual reconnaissance mission over Military Region 2 - Kontum Province, Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) while piloting O-1F #57-2890 on June 9, 1970. His aircraft was located in Pleiku, South Vietnam with a possible loss of life of two. He was declared dead June 2, 1976.

There is a memorial with his name on it at the USAFA. The Veteran's memorial tablet in his hometown holds his name. His name appears on a panel of the Honolulu Memorial Cemetery, Courts of the Missing, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (the Punchbowl). His name also appears on the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. Panel 9W, Row 35.
