CENTRAL CITY — Gloria Jean (Killion) Shelton, 73, of Central City died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Central City, with the Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Central City Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Grand Island to Elmer John and Anna Frieda (Giesenhagen) Killion. She attended elementary school in Grand Island and graduated from Palmer High School in 1959. On June 4, 1960, Gloria and Ernest E. “Ernie” Shelton were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. They made their home in Merrick County, living in Central City in the early years of their marriage before moving to the farm. Gloria worked as a nurse’s aide for Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital, Central City Elementary School secretary, Merrick County Court stenographer, the executive director of the March of Dimes and operated her own interior design business. Gloria also helped Ernie on the farm until their retirement in 2002. They moved into Central City in 2003.

Gloria was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City and was on the hospitality committee and was active in all phases of church life. She was faithful in attending Bible Study and especially enjoyed sharing them with Ernie. Gloria was a member of Post 6 Legion Auxiliary, had been a 4-H leader and co-leader, and belonged to the Fairview Extension Club. Special interests that Gloria enjoyed were ceramics, entertaining, sewing, helping others who were in need, and being with her family. Gloria was thankful that she was able to spend some time with each of her young great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ernie Shelton of Central City; her daughters, Sherri Langley of Lufkin, Texas, Linda Paugels of Lincoln and Lori Shelton of Central City; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Shelton, Jena Paugels, LaTasha Garrett, Tereska Colon, Caleb and Bryce Langley, and MiKayla Jackson; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Dolores Brown of Grand Island; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwayne and Betty Killion of Kearney and Howard and Karon Killion of Shenandoah, Iowa.

Those preceding Gloria in death were her parents; her brother, Elmer Killion Jr.; and her sister, Janet Johnson.
