In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Elizabeth Byerly, Mable Cummings and infant sister Allie May Benfield; three brothers, Noah James "NJ" Benfield, Clarence "Benny" Benfield and Eugene "Bub" Benfield.
Mrs. Richards is survived by two sisters, Pearl Snyder of Lenoir and Peggy Coffey of Texas and a brother Richard Terry Benfield of Lenoir.
Mrs. Richards is also survived by her four children. She was always a wonderful and loving mother to her four children; three daughters, Nancy Setzer Wallace and husband Guy of Lake James, Nedrea Richards of Hudson and Nadine Sherrill and husband Allen of Granite Falls; one son, Ned L. Richards, Jr. "Richie" and wife Robin of Hickory.
Known as "Ninna" to her devoted grandchildren who are left to cherish her memory are Daryn Carter, Chad and Joey Whitener of Hickory, Cary Setzer and wife Jamie of Lenoir, Nikki Lutton and husband Matt of Lenoir, Matthew Richards of Hickory, Mollie Merritt and husband James of Conover, Brad Sherrill of Hickory, Kelli Cummins and husband Jason of Marietta, Georgia.
She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Luke, Savannah and Brock Setzer, James Lutton, all of Lenoir, Jayden, Kahne and Kash Cummins of Marietta, Georgia, Payce Sherrill of Hickory, Tanner Richards of Hickory, Jonathan Merritt and soon to arrive baby Jackson Merritt of Conover.
Known for her dedication and beautiful voice, Mrs. Richards sang in the choir at her home church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir. She formerly attended the First Baptist Church in Hickory, North Carolina.
Services for Evelyn Grace Benfield Richards will be conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2015 Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the Service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful ladies of Hospice who treated our mother with dignity and loving care and who graciously catered to our every need.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Richards will be Cary Setzer, Luke Setzer, Jason Cummins, Matthew Richards, Chad Whitener, and Lucas McGuire. Honorary pallbearer will be Joey Whitener.
