Shelley Diane Martin, 62, of Marion, passed away at Community Howard Regional Health Hospital in Kokomo on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. Daughter of Willard Mitchell and Barbara (Buck) Mitchell, Shelley was born in Muncie, and lived most of her life in Marion. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1970 and on Jan. 4, 1975, she married Marshall Martin; he survives.

Shelley attended Indiana Business College and became a licensed practical nurse through Ivy Tech in 1991. She worked as a nurse at many facilities around the area. Along with her husband, she helped co-found Martin Plumbing Heating and A/C, Inc. Shelley belonged to the Grant County Child Abuse Council and remained a true child advocate. She cherished being a mom and grandmother; her family was most important to her. She enjoyed all types of music and was a lover of art. She was an avid reader and was a supporter of education. She liked watching movies, meeting people and going to the beach. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Gospel.


She is survived by her father, Willard; husband, Marshall; brothers, Jim (Julie) Mitchell, Mike (Jill) Filler and Kevin Mitchell; three children, Eric (Colette) Martin, Rachel Bishop and Cody (Stefanie) Martin; 11 grandchildren, Madeline, Jack, Claire, Sophia, Benjamin, Olivia, Samuel, Keira, Lincoln, Audra and Elijah; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.


Shelley was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara, and brothers, Willis and Billy.


Services for Shelley will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. in Marion with Bishop Ken Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Thrailkill Cemetery.


Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
