Mrs. Rachel King Chapman, 92, of Arthur Street, Hartwell, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Born on September 19, 1922 in Bowdon, GA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Joseph W. King and Lula Bishop King. She was a retired Administrative Assistant with the US Army Corp of Engineers and a member of the Cokesbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and served on various church committees. Mrs. Chapman also was a past matron and a charter member of the Nancy Hart Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #398 and a past president of the Pilot Club of Hartwell.
Survivors include two daughters: Janet Schell and her husband Frank, Marijean Holland and her husband Bill all of Hartwell; five grandchildren: Charly Schell and his wife Kelli, Paul Schell, Joe Schell and his wife Traci, Amy Morris and her husband Grady and Beth Allen and her husband Kevin; eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband: C.B. Chapman and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Ann Mann officiating. Burial in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service. The family is at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Cokesbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 216, Hartwell, GA 30643.
