Monroe Samuel Bert, 59, of 53 Sunny Lane, died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 1994, upon arrival at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1934, near Mongul, he was a son of the late Laban S. and Leah E. Musser Bert.

He was a 1953 graduate of Messiah Academy.

He and his mother operated a farm. He was later employed by Turkey Hill Dairy, Lancaster, before returning to Franklin County to farm until 1966, when he became employed at Grove Worldwide. For the last 12 years, he was at Grove's Wayne Avenue office.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served 13 years in the scouting program and was currently teaching a Sunday school class for 16 year olds. He also served as librarian at the Family History Center and as secretary for the High Priest Quorum.

Since 1988, he worked part time at Franklin County Library.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Fields, whom he married June 27, 1969; two sons, Gary Monroe Bert of 10 Birch Road, Wenham, Mass., and Laryrn Richard Jones of 355 E. 2600 N., North Logan, Utah; three daughters, Denise Bert Bender of 660 Hilltop Road, Newburg, Wenda Alycia of 825 W. 600 St., Logan, Utah, and Jeanette Lorraine, serving as a missionary, in care of Temple Square, 50 W.N. Temple, Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, J. Leroy of Newburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Burial will be Wednesday in Lincoln Cemetery.
