John was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on June 23, 1925 to Margie Sperry and John Henry Hulsey, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Glynda Lorene Obsivac Hulsey of Tyler, Texas; daughters, Lynda Kay Hulsey Makin and her husband, James of Beaumont, Texas, Carolyn Sue Hulsey Burton of Arlington, Texas and Debra Ann Hulsey of Flint, Texas; and sister, Gwynn Kirkpatrick and husband, Ron of Glenpool, Oklahoma. John also had 3 grandchildren, Amy Kay Aber Riggs of Houston, Texas, Jody Thomas Burton of Peggs, Oklahoma and Lori Burton Cook and her husband, Heath of Arlington, Texas, 5 great grandchildren and one honorary son, James William “Billy” Hawkins of Chandler, Texas. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Ballard of Henrietta, Oklahoma.
John served in the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict in the Sea Bees (Construction Batallion). He was a member of the Sharon Temple Shriners an entrepreneur businessman, and owner of Lone Star Donut Shop on Broadway in Tyler. He liked nothing more than spending time with his family and watching his Thoroughbred race horses run. John was a polio survivor in 1957 and used his archery skills to compete competitively. He was a self-taught musician who played the guitar and piano and formed several country bands.
