FLORENCE (LOROL/KITTY) SCHOPFLOCHER was born and raised in Montreal. Her parents were George Albert Snyder who was Swiss and her mother who was born in New York. She learned of the Baha’i Faith from May Maxwell, who invited her to visit Green Acre, where she became a Baha’i.
In January 1918 she married Sigfried (Fred) Schopflocher. The couple had no children.
She became a travel teacher for the Faith, visiting over 86 countries, emphasizing the part women were to play in bringing about a new social order and pleaded for the emancipation and education of women. She was the first woman to fly from England to India (1926), the first Western woman to cross the Hamad Desert (early 1920’s); traveled on the Hindenburg twice with her passage on the ill-fated voyage on the Hindenburg cancelled. She was associated with the Women’s International Association of Aeronautics, the International League for Peace and Freedom.
Lorol spent the last years of her life at Green Acre holding teas and receptions at her home in the Ole Bull Cottage before moving to “Nine Gables” where she operated a health retreat and where she lived until her death. She deeded the Ole Bull Cottage and “Nine Gables” to the National Spiritual Assembly. She was a well-known and sought out lecturer.
**Death reported in the Baha'i News December 1970 Listed as Laurel
