Cumberland, MD - Margaret Elizabeth Doak, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Golden Living Center after celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends on Sunday. Margaret was born in Cumberland, MD, December 28, 1914, to the late Henderson H. and Frances F. (Lillard) Doak.
She was also preceded in death by one brother: Ralph; a nephew: Darrell Stine; and grandnephew: Andrew Brune; and a sister-in-Law: Aline Doak.
Margaret graduated from Allegany High School, Class of 1932, received a B.S. Degree from Frostburg State Teachers College in 1936, and later a Master's of Education from Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA.
She retired June 30, 1977, after 41 years as teacher, principal, and supervisor of elementary education for the Allegany County Board of Education.
Her first teaching assignment was in a one-room schoolhouse with seven students in the Flintstone area. Afterward she taught at Cresaptown and East Side Elementary schools. Before taking a position as a supervisor, Margaret opened and was principal of the Parkside Elementary School in LaVale.
Margaret was a life-long member of the First Christian Church Cumberland (Disciples of Christ) which her father helped establish. She served as Sunday school teacher, church deacon, elder, and treasurer. As a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Margaret served as president and secretary of that group. She was a member of Eta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma.
In addition, Margaret was a member of the national, state, and local Retired Teachers' Associations, the Cumberland Branch of American Association of University Women, Allegany County Historical Society, Church Women United, and the Women's Civic Club. Margaret is survived by her brother: Col. Robert L. Doak, Ret., Colonial Heights, VA; her niece: Donna Brune and husband, Basel, Flint Hill, VA; her nephews: Robert L. Doak II, Church Road, VA; and, Brent Stine, Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind her grand nephew: Robert L. Doak III; her grand niece: Dana Deboer; and her sister-in-law: Maxine Doak-Whiteman and husband, Roy, Charlotte, NC.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Monday, January 5, 2015, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, January 5, 2015, at 1:00 P.M., with Reverend Rae Browning officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The First Christian Church, 312 Bedford Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. Margaret was especially appreciative of the love and care she received over recent years from friends and caregivers Norma Twigg, Sharon Davis, Sandra Malcolm, Wheaton Davis, Tristan Davis, Debra Arnold, and her dear friends Betty Flake, and Mary Malamphy who have preceded her in death. Margaret spent her final years at Golden Living Center in Cumberland and was well and lovingly cared for by the staff. Her roommate, retired nurse Nellie Mock was a wonderful friend to Margaret and cared for her as her own very special patient.
