William was born on November 23, 1917 in Henning to William Leonard and Sadelia (Baldwin) Benson. On February 2, 1942 he married Pauline Hauer at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River. They farmed in Spruce Hill Township, Douglas county after their marriage. William was also a carpenter. About a year ago they retired and moved to Miltona. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Millerville. He is survived by: wife, Pauline; 2 sons, Dwight Benson and Leonard Benson, both of Minneapolis; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Nellie Pearson of Minneapolis and Mrs. Edmund (Ethel) Arvidson of Eagle Bend; 1 brother, Harry Benson of Battle Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister. Pallbearers were Awald Schlosser, Gary Botzet, Reuben Sibel, Nick Steidl, Jeffrey Koep and Adolph Mrnak. Arrangements were with the LaMere Funeral Home of Parkers Prairie.
