Walz was born in Neudorf in southern Russia but came to the United States in 1905. He lived in North and South Dakota, married Katherina Biederstedt in Ashley, N.D. and worked in apple orchards and as a butcher there.
The moved to Orondo, Wash., in 1942 and bought an apple orchard there in 1946. They retired in 1954 and moved to Lodi in 1958. Mrs. Walz died n 1975.
Walz was a member of the Ebenezer Congregational Church, and the WWI Barracks 1214 of Lodi and was a past member of the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the US Army in 1918.
He lived at 327 Flora St. prior to his death.
He is survived by a son, Harold Walz of Lodi; two daughters, Gladys Atkins of Auburn, Wash., and Lenora Soyejima of Seattle; a brother, Fred Walz of Waterville, Wash.; a sister, Katherina Stugelmeyer of McLaughlin, SD; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 pm in the Lodi Funeral Home chapel, Rev. Herbert Schaal of the Ebenezer Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cherokee Memorial Park.
