NEW BEDFORD – Henry D. Bower, 97, of Santa Cruz, California, formerly of South Dartmouth and New Bedford, Massachusetts, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Driftwood HealthCare Center after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma F. (Wordell) Bower, his three brothers Art, George, Herb, and four sisters Ruth Parker, Grace Viera, Nellie McAdams, Mary Anderson.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Arthur T. and Flora (Beattie) Bower, he lived in the Greater New Bedford area most of his life. He was a member of People's Christian Church in New Bedford.

Mr. Bower was a machinist at Revere Copper and Brass where he was employed for forty-eight years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time playing golf with his good friends and traveling with his wife. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Agawam Chapter 121.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Lamothe of Fall River; a son, David Bower, and his wife, Cheryl, of Santa Cruz, California; four grandchildren, Stephanie Kjaer and Elizabeth Bower, both of Santa Cruz, and Kimberly Lamothe and David Lamothe, both of Tiverton, RI; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday, April 18, 2008, at 11:00AM at THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County St., New Bedford. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
