DeWitt C. Cagwin, 73, a former principal of the Douglas schools and an instructor in other schools in Colorado and Wyoming, died recently at the home of his daughter in Philadelphia, friends here learned Thursday.
Mr. Cagwin was born in Verona, N. Y. He started his teaching work in that state. He later moved to Iowa, Minnesota and Wyoming before going to Denver in 1897. He was principal of the Fairmount school there for ten years and left it to become superintendent of schools in Walsenburg, Colo., a position he held eight years. He then was an instructor in the schools at Berkeley, Calif., fifteen years, until he retired in 1930.
Mr. Cagwin served for two or three years as principal of the Douglas schools some 25 years ago, being succeeded by T. C. Rowley, present county treasurer.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Oswald M. Milligan.
