Mr. Richard Elmore Johnson, 80, of Atmore, answered the Master’s Call on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Escambia County (McCullough community) and he attended Pleasant Hill School. He was retired from the Little Rock, Ark., police dept and Standard Furniture as a truck driver.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in McCullough, where he was a Deacon, president of the Usher Board, member of the Sunday School and over the Church Benevolent Fund. He enjoyed watching TV, watching baseball, and doing work with his backhoe.

Those who await him in Glory are a son, Robert Johnson and his parents, Scott and Alice Johnson.

Those who will forever cherish his memories are his wife, Linda Johnson of Atmore; one daughter, Evelyn Glover of Ladson, S.C.; four sons, Robert Felder of Jacksonville, Ark., Richard E. Johnson Jr. of High Point, N.C., Robert Banks Sr. of Hartford, Conn. and Richard Earl Johnson of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Emma Thomas of McCullough and Frances Clarke of Chamber Heights, N.Y.; one brother, Wade Johnson, Sr. of McCullough; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. from at First Baptist Church in McCullough with the Rev. Charles Jones, pastor, officiating.
Retirement of remains will be in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday, Jan. 16, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a family hour from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. His body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service, with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC, directing.
