Lillie Mae Foster, 94, of Paducah passed away peacefully on January 11, 2014. She is survived by her three sons: Douglas L. Foster and wife Linda of Bowling Green, KY, Leland P. Foster and wife Kathy of St. Louis, MO, and Philip C. Foster and wife Cookie of Dallas, TX, four grandchildren, Greg Foster and wife April, Kyle Foster, Jennifer Ianke, Carrie Parker and husband Stephen, and five great-grandchildren, Drew, Claire, Sam, Cal, and Kit.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, grandson Ryan Foster, sisters Helen Thompson, Rosalie Thedford, and Jean Marsh, and brother Walter Holloway.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Thursday, January 15 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Drive and from noon until the funeral service time of 1PM on Friday at Arcadia United Methodist Church, 261 Lone Oak Road. Dr. Paul Mullikin will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Mount Kenton Cemetery.

Lillie Mae was born July 23, 1920 in Spring City, TN to Walter F. and Ladie P. Holloway. She graduated from Spring City High School in 1938 where she excelled in basketball, earning honors as an All-East Tennessee guard. She attended McKenzie Business College in Chattanooga, TN in 1941 and later held the position of head bookkeeper for TVA’s Watts Bar Dam construction project. It was there that she met and fell in love with Thomas. They were joined in marriage in Paducah, KY on August 8, 1943 and were happily married for 67 years until his death in 2010.

During their marriage, she worked as assistant cashier at the Paducah Bank while happily performing the duties as a mother of her three sons. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and preparing meals with the fresh produce. Although her gardens grew smaller over the years, her enthusiasm remained and she eagerly greeted each spring to plant. She was a devoted University of Kentucky basketball fan and never missed a broadcast game.Lillie Mae was a member of Arcadia Methodist Church for nearly 70 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the UMW. She was also a former member of the McCracken County Homemaker’s club.

She was proudly independent to the very end and lived life to the fullest and lived it well. The family would like to thank her many neighbors, especially Tom and Bonnie Cannon, Fred Austin, Barry and Carol Adams, friend Beulah Edging, and caregivers Gayle Sutherland and Madonna Blanks for their many kindnesses in her later years.
