Mr. Corey F. ‘ Yank’ Gibbon, Jr., 64, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Richmond Pines in Hamlet. He was born July 13, 1949 in Richmond County, a son of the late Annie Loyd Chavis Gibbon and Corey Francis Gibbon, Sr.

Mr. Gibbon was active with the Rockingham VFW Post 4203, where he was a past Commander, and was recognized earlier this year by having the Richmond County Veterans Memorial Park named in honor of him. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Gibbon served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, receiving a Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal. He had been a Richmond County Deputy Sheriff and then worked later with Myrick Construction.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the Richmond County Veterans Memorial Park at the VFW Post 4203 in Rockingham. The service will conclude with military honors.

Mr. Gibbon is survived by his wife, Ginger Gibbon; daughters, Tammy Bass (Jerry) and Lisa Hudson (Tony); sons, Daniel Baxley (Shannon) and Cleve Baxley(Amy); grandchildren, Hailey Bass, Jamie Marshburn, Alexus Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Chase Hudson, Nathan Hudson, Lauren Hudson, Kaitlyn Baxley, Danielle Baxley, Cleve Baxley V, Hunter Baxley, Faith Baxley, Brandi Simmons, and Ryan Bass; and special friends, Larry and Eileen Evans.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Gibbon; and a sister, Patricia Napier.
