Rhythm and Blues Musician. A native of Houma, Louisiana, he was a member of the musical group, The Spiders. Formed in New Orleans in 1953, The Spiders also included Issacher Gordon, Hayward "Chuck" Carbo, Matthew West, Joe Maxon, Oliver Howard, and Bill Moore. They initially began recording in 1947 as a gospel group called the "Zion City Harmonizers", and went through several stylistic and name changes before finding a successful formula in rhythm and blues. Signing with the Imperial Record Label, The Spiders released their first single, "I Didn't Want To Do It," which went to number three on the R&B Charts in 1954. They followed this up with other hit recordings such as "You're The One", "I'm Slippin' In", and "Tears Begin To Flow". In 1955, Joe Maxon and Matthew West left the group and were replaced by Bill Moore and Issacher Gordon. That year they scored two more Top Ten hits, "Witchcraft" and "21". In 1956, Carbo tried a solo career on the Imperial Record Label, which caused problems for the group. That same year he signed as a solo artist with the Atlantic Record Label. In 1957, the group released there final single, 'That's My Desire,' and disbanded the same year. The Carbo brothers continued singing for many years afterward but neither had any significant hits. Other recordings by the group include, 'The Bells Are Ringing,' 'Times,' 'Honey Bee,' 'I'm Glade For Your Sake,' 'Tennessee Slim,' 'Poor Boy,' 'Sukey, Shukey, Shukey, and 'Is It True (A Little Bird Told Me). Carbo also served in the United States Coast Guard. On August 18, 1998, he died from a heart attack, at the age of 70.
