The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.
Jim was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday School and church regularly for over 52 years. He was employed by Forest Hill Dairy as a teenager where he worked for approximately three years before gaining employment at Fieldcrest, where he retired after 48 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, beekeeping, raising livestock, gardening and reading his Bible daily.
Jim was the son of James Cornelius Purdy and Edna L Goard (Goad) Purdy. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Read, his son, James Wayne; a brother, Thomas Green and two sisters, Doris June, and Frances Madeline.
He is survived by a brother, two sisters, three daughters, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and his special dog, Panda Purdy.
