Born in Llewellyn, she was a daughter of the late Nevin and Thelma Umholtz Starr. She was a member of the last graduating class of Branch Township High School in 1952.
Along with her husband, John "Jack' Massari and his family, she was an active contributor to the long-standing success of The Blu Tavern Restaurant, Llewellyn, until retiring. She and Jack celebrated 59 years of marriage in November 2014.
She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Stein's Mill; and was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as past orderly matron. Rose enjoyed word-find puzzles, cooking and baking. Rose will be best remembered as kind, giving and helpful.
Preceding her in death were a brother, Donald Starr, and a son-in-law, Clervant Artz Jr., both in 2008.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two children, Susan Artz, Shillington, and John Massari and his wife, Brenda, Llewellyn; two grandchildren, Arlene and George Massari; a sister, Diane Haflin, Whiting, N.J.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Friedens Lutheran Church, 54 Church Road, Pottsville. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Dutcavich Funeral Home has charge. Visit www.dutcavich.com
